26 Miles, 4 feet and No Blisters!

Hello all,

This weekend Hannah and I completed the Shine Walk for Cancer Research, 26 miles around London overnight.  We managed it in about 8 hours, which included a few stops here and there, but to be fair, it was 26 miles. We even got medals.

Finishers with our medals.

Finishers with our medals.

I have a slightly swollen knee, but apart from that, neither of us suffered from Blisters (Thank you comfy walking shoes and Merino wool socks) and the tiredness was nothing that a Pizza and 11 hours sleep couldn’t fix.

Between us we raised £640 much more than our target so massive thanks to you all.  Between everybody on the night nearly £2 million was raised.

If anybody is reading this and feel like they would want to donate to me, here is the link.

The next stop on our tour was to Hue, Vietnam’s old Capital city. We had a motorbike tour of the city and went to a monastery and temple.

In this temple was the car belonging to Thic Quang Duc, now a Bhudddist saint. He was the Buddhist Monk that burnt himself alive in the street in Saigon in protest at the South Vietnam governments persecution of Buddhists.

Malcolm Browne’s famous photograph of this has become world famous and was also used on the cover of the album Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine.

If I have my maths correct, today is 20 years since Freddie Mercury died, one of the greatest rock entertainers the world has ever seen.

His memory is still strong in peoples minds, even if it is just in fancy dress at a festival (this was taken at Bestival 2009)
